Sustainability Engagement Award

Award description:

The Sustainability Engagement Award, as a non-monetary recognition, aims to highlight the exceptional contributions of postdoctoral researchers who have demonstrated leadership, initiative, and impact in advancing sustainability at McGill University and beyond. This can include research or activities that promote environmental stewardship, social sustainability, climate action, or community engagement related to sustainability.

Eligibility and criteria:

The nominee must be a postdoc (of any type, i.e., Fellows, Researchers, and Scholars are eligible) affiliated with McGill University for at least one semester of the academic year and have spent at least one year as a postdoc at McGill or its affiliated research centres.

The evaluation committee will be looking for evidence of engagement in one or more of the following areas during their time as a postdoc at McGill University:

  • Leading or contributing significantly to sustainability initiatives, projects, or programs.
  • Engaging with the campus or broader community to promote sustainability awareness or action.
  • Integrating sustainability principles into research, outreach, teaching, or daily practices.
  • Demonstrating measurable impact in advancing McGill’s sustainability goals or addressing global sustainability challenges.
  • Conducting impactful research on climate change and sustainability.

Nomination package:

Postdocs can be nominated by anybody affiliated with McGill University or can self-nominate. The nomination package should include:

  • A cover letter (limit one page).
  • Evidence describing and supporting their engagement and impact in sustainability. This may include, but is not limited to: letters of support, certificates, photos, website links, media coverage, project summaries, or other relevant documentation.
